Abstract

BACKGROUND:

The Whistler Sliding Centre (WSC) in British Columbia, Canada, has played host to many events including the 2010 WinterOlympics. This study was performed to better understand sliding sport incident (crash, coming off sled, etc) and injury prevalence and provide novel insights into the effect of slider experience and track-specific influences on injury risk and severity.

CONCLUSIONS:

By investigating the influence of start location, incident location and slider experience on incident and injury frequency and severity, a better understanding has been achieved of the inherent risks involved in sliding sports. Incident monitoring, with particular focus on track ejection, should be an emphasis of sliding tracks.

Resumen

ANTECEDENTES:

El Centro de Deslizamiento de Whistler (CSM) en la Columbia Británica, Canadá, ha sido sede de muchos eventos, incluyendo los WinterOlympics 2010. Este estudio se realizó para comprender mejor deslizamiento incidente deporte (accidente, que viene de trineo, etc) y la prevalencia de lesiones y proporcionar nuevos conocimientos sobre el efecto de la experiencia deslizador y las influencias de vía específica sobre el riesgo de lesiones y la gravedad.

CONCLUSIONES:

Por la investigación de la influencia de la ubicación de inicio, lugar del incidente y la experiencia en el control deslizante de incidentes y lesiones frecuencia y severidad, una mejor comprensión se ha logrado de los riesgos inherentes a los deportes de deslizamiento. Monitoreo de incidentes, con especial foco en la pista de expulsión, debe haber un énfasis de pistas de deslizamiento.
