U.S. freeskier Maggie Voisin out of Olympics with injury

KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia – Freeskier Maggie Voisin was the USA’s youngest Olympian in the Sochi Games, but the 15-year-old will not be able to compete after getting hurt in training on Friday.
Voisin was training on a rail feature on the slopestyle course at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park when she injured her right ankle. She will not be replaced in the event.
MEDAL PROJECTIONS: Picking winners in every event
«Maggie distinguished herself as one of the top slopestyle athletes in the world in qualifying for Team USA,» said Luke Bodensteiner, executive vice president for athletics for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association. «We’re disappointed for her in being unable to start but have great respect for what she accomplished to get here. Unfortunately there is not sufficient time to seek a replacement and have that athlete properly prepare for Tuesday’s competition.»
Although she was a surprise to make the team, Voisin proved herself to be a medal contender. She landed on her first major podium on her 15th birthday in December and was a discretionary pick.
At the X Games last month, she took silver after landing a switch 1080, a trick only one other freeskier has done before
